about

We are a Computational Biology Group at the Faculty of Computer and Information Science, University of Ljubljana which is led by Professor Miha Mraz and is based within the Laboratory of Computer Structures and Systems. Our work is focused on different aspects in modeling and design of biological systems, especially in the context of their information processing capabilities. Our latest research is directed towards the establishment of various metrics which would allow us to automatize the construction of complex biological systems with information processing capabilities, employment of various metaheuristics in their design and introduction of new methodologies to the field of their modeling (e.g. Fuzzy Petri Networks and Extended Kalman Filtering). We are also cooperating with the Department of Biotechnology, Slovenian National Institute of Chemistry (professor Roman Jerala). Our members were part of a successful team, led by professor Roman Jerala, which attended the iGEM competition in 2010 and won the grand prize. Other group of students attended the competition in 2012 and reached the second place among 190 iGEM teams.
